Ok, So i went back today ( the second and last day of STGCC) and asked more questions about the soldier story 3.0 body prototype. It is a muscle body. The torsal IS made of rubber, a rubber sheath over a plastic core, much like the soldier story 2.5 body, which has the same rubber sheath extending from chin down to the neck and ending at the navel section.
There is no easy way to say this. Articulation sucks on the soldier story 3.0 prototype body. As shown in pictures i took of the arm, the elbow joint is a single joint, unlike the double joint that past ( did the original 1.0 body have double joints?? ) and current soldier story bodies are equipped with. The arm on the prototype bends to a maximum of roughly 90 degrees ( around there, it is an expensive prototype and the distributors handled it very gently ) . This is entirely unacceptable. Military figures NEED articulation above anything else. I understand the need to improve the base bodies. But this is one HUGE step BACK for soldier story if they were to implement the new single elbow joint design.
If this 3.0 muscle body is used for figures with short sleeves or sleeveless figures, while the 2.5 body is used for normal figures, i would say it is a compromise. The best solution will be to implement a double elbow joint design on the 3.0 muscle body.
Granted it will subtract from the look of the 3.0 muscle body, but i have to iterate, there is no use in a military figure that cannot shoulder his weapon properly and enter a shooting stance.
The 3.0 muscle body should be a PROTOTYPE at this stage, so there is still hope. Soldier story is by far my favorite military figure company, forming the bulk and foundation of my collection, i sincerely hope they are able to come to a compromise between looks and articulation.
Anyway, the soldier story reps/distributors are very responsive and adaptive, they have switched the lighting positions today which has resulted in much better pictures.

Soldier Story 3.0 Body, ALERT : Elbow is single jointed WHY WHY, we need articulation for military figures, please put a double jointed elbow in !!!
The soldier story boss was nice enough to lift the display and let me feel the 3.0 body. Feels like hard plastic/rubber. I didnt want to take liberties and touch it too much least it fell over .. shhhhhhh. Maybe i will go back tomorrow to confirm.
There is a very stange and wierd soldier story lego line, Black Hawk is NOT diecast, its ABS plastic.
