During the invasion of Iraq, C Squadron had worked closely with MI6 operatives in Basra while it was still under control of the Baathist regime. The SBS carried out various actions to destabilise Iraqi forces and facilitate the entry of allied troops into the city.

The HMT 400 is the basis for the MWMIK, or 'Jackal', now in service with units such as 16 Air Assault Brigade and 3 Commando Brigade in Afghanistan, filling roles previously filled by WMIK Land Rovers
A Special Boat Service Maritime Counter Terrorism (MCT) team onboard a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). The SBS are armed with MP5 sub machine guns and are wearing Gecko helmets, membrane drysuits and inflatable life jackets. The man driving the RIB is likely to be a specially-trained Royal Marine coxswain.
Special Boat Service (SBS) personnel perform a static-line parachute jump out the rear of a cargo plane. The SBS specialize in so-called 'wet-jumping' - parachuting into bodies of water from aircraft such as C-130 transport planes and CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
December 11th, 2001 - A member of the Special Boat Service inspects damage done by U.S. air strikes at the Tarnak farms camp - an abandoned Al-Qaeda training facility on the southern outskirts of Kandahar airport.
