　　大将军一夕之间成为奴隶，被训练为竞技场斗士，他在竞技场上对抗罗马帝国！罗马帝国大将军麦柯希穆（罗素克罗饰）率兵出征，所向皆捷，凯旋而归。在外征战叁年的麦柯希穆，一心只想返家与家人团聚，皇帝病危召见，想把王位传给他，皇储康莫德斯见到此景，愤而暗中派人抄了麦柯希穆的家。

　　老皇帝驾崩，康莫德斯登基，死里逃生的麦柯希穆成为一名奴隶，被训练成为竞技场上的斗士。麦柯希穆曾经为了罗马帝国的光辉荣耀而战，如今竞技场成为他的战场，他征战的目的改变了，他在竞技场上勇猛搏斗，为了制造机会接近康莫德斯，替妻儿报仇。然而所向无敌的麦柯希穆竟然成了人民心目中的英雄，受百姓崇拜，他所凝聚的气势，点燃了罗马帝国灭亡的导火线。
